Cookies
Cookies are small pieces of data a site asks your browser to keep so it can recognise you between page loads. Curated Word runs three things — this site, the bookshops, and the author dashboard — and they do not all behave the same way, so this page takes them one at a time.
This site
No cookies. These pages explain what the platform is and let you join a mailing list or send us a form. None of that needs to remember you between page loads, so nothing is stored in your browser — no analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no consent record, because there is nothing here to consent to. That is also why you have not seen a banner.
One thing does leave your browser: the typefaces are served by Google Fonts. Google sets no cookie for this, but it does receive your IP address and the address of the page requesting the font, as any server does when your browser asks it for a file.
The bookshops
A bookshop has a basket and a checkout, so it does store things: a cart session so your basket survives a refresh, and a record of your answer to its cookie banner. Every bookshop we host works this way, whether it is on a publisher's own domain or ours.
Those are set by the shop you are in, and your consent is stored per site — so the full list, and the control that resets your choice, live on the shop's own page: cookies on the bookshop. If you are shopping on a publisher's own site, use the Cookies link in that site's footer; the reset only works on the site that asked you.
The dashboard
Signing in at app.curatedword.com sets one cookie that keeps you signed in between visits. It is HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=strict — unreadable to scripts and never sent to another site — and it is cleared when you sign out. Signing in is the only thing that sets it, so it cannot be refused without refusing the sign-in.
If this changes
If we ever want something non-essential here — measuring which pages people read, for instance — a banner comes first and nothing is set until you accept. We do not use ad-tech, and we do not sell what we hold.
